Brutalist Cigar Ashtray Designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi, Italy c. 1960s
$995
In stock
This sculptural Italian ashtray—designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi Ceramiche—embodies the bold geometry of Brutalist design. Created in the 1950s–60s and finished in Bitossi’s iconic Rimini Blu glaze, it features a deep radial sunburst medallion, recessed bowl, and two wide cigar rests encased in a thick surround.
At 9.5 inches in diameter and 2.25 inches high, this is a rare large-format version of Londi’s signature forms, originally made for export and now highly sought after. The vivid blue glaze is layered with tonal richness and a central field of glass-like crackling, creating a pooled surface that shimmers like molten lapis. This crystalline effect—characteristic of Bitossi’s finest Rimini Blu work—adds stunning visual depth and a uniquely tactile surface.
Stamped ITALY and numbered 825 on the base, this piece reflects a time when ceramics were made to be both functional and visually striking. Its strong form and detailed surface make it equally suited to clean modern interiors or more layered, eclectic spaces.
