A Treco “Avant-Garde 2000” stacking chair designed by Giovanni Maur, Quebec, 1971. Made from injection-moulded ABS plastic, the Avant-Garde 2000 is recognized as Canada’s first monobloc chair made entirely by injection moulding.

Originally sold through major department stores including Eaton’s and The Bay in Canada and Macy’s in the United States, the chair was conceived as contemporary furniture for a broad market. Today, examples are held in the permanent collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, reflecting its later recognition as an important work of Canadian industrial design.

Approximately 30 inches high × 19.5 inches wide × 19 inches deep. Moulded markings identify Treco Ltd., Saint-Romuald, Quebec, and designer G. Maur. Good vintage condition, with normal age and use wear to the bottoms of the legs.
