Folding Bamboo Basket Japanese utilitarian design c. 1960s–1980s

A clever folding bamboo basket with deep mid-century appeal—part of a vintage warehouse find, never sold or used. Though the maker is unknown, its style, construction, and lack of barcodes suggest it was made in Japan between the 1960s and 1980s. Often used for fruit or bread, this type of folding basket was popular in Japanese and Scandinavian export design during that period.
Made from natural and stained wood slats in a rich plum tone, the basket collapses flat and opens into a sculptural bowl with a curved bamboo handle.
